Flying into Stockholm Arlanda

Summer holiday essentials

As you may have already seen, we’ve both managed to book get-aways this summer and have already been busy writing packing lists and trying to figure out what we need to bring. We’ve compiled a list of our essentials in the hope we won’t forget anything and to help you with your summer packing as well…

Becca: I always wear a foundation with a SPF of at least 15 but I top it up with Piz Buin sunscreen as it’s the lightest and least greasy of the sunscreens I’ve found so far. In the evening I like to use a bit of Hawaiian Tropic oil as it smells like summer and leaves a nice sheen on my skin. I’m off on a beach holiday so will be taking a big floppy hat like this one from ASOS – perfect for some extra sun protection and allowing me to read my kindle without the sun in my eyes.

This swimsuit from Missguided at ASOS is perfect, giving a bit of extra coverage than a standard bikini but with a cut out back. I’ll also be taking a couple of these Hamam towels with me, light enough to keep in our carry-on bags and they won’t pick up the grains of sand like normal towels. I’ll also be browning my legs (they never tan) with Superdrug’s Solait fake tan prior to travelling as it smells amazing and not biscuit-y at all plus it’s super cheap!

With over 300 books to read on my kindle I should be kept busy but I’ll be taking a few paperbacks with me if they’ll fit in my luggage. I’m also in the market for a new pair of prescription sunnies and have been eyeing up these Southport and Salcombe ones from Specsavers. I shall be taking a supply of refreshing peppermint tea to drink instead of water (you can also cold-brew it overnight) not least because my husband drinks it too!

Kate: Being typically British (i.e. pale and freckly), my first essential has to be sunscreen! I’m a factor 50 girl through and through and SunSense Daily Face SPF 50+ is something I actually use all year around as well as being a holiday essential. These Sunglasses from Topshop are a bargain at £10 and will go nicely with any outfit. Holidays for me mean LOTS of walking, so comfortable shoes are essential – I picked up these Vans Palisades from Schuh at £45 they were a bit more than I wanted to spend but with their ‘UltraCush’ sole I think they will be a good investment – they are ridiculously comfortable!

My next essential is my Kindle, although I am a lover of real books and how they feel and smell but a kindle saves essential space when travelling and can hold plenty of books to keep me occupied while i’m waiting for the husband to get up in the morning. I’ll be taking my Olympus OMD EM10 MKii to capture the highlights of the trip with the standard kit lens and this Panasonic 20mm lens . A compact bag that doesn’t make your shoulders ache but still fits your essentials in is a must have and this Star Mela bag ticks all the boxes for me, it is £58 but a good investment I think! Last but not least I’ll be popping some of Birdhouse Tea Company’s Botanical Gardens tea in my bag because wherever I am in the world I need to wake up with a good cup of tea!
