Reclaim Your Lunch Break

If any of you are readers of Stylist magazine you may have heard of their campaign Reclaim Your Lunch Break‘. How many of you work through your lunch breaks? And feel guilty if you leave work on time? Where did this subservient culture come from where we feel guilty to refuel our bodies and take a time out for ourselves in our working days?

It is proven that not taking a lunch break decreases productivity, increases work related stress, increases the likelihood of work related health problems and taking a proper lunch break facilitates team building, enhances work enjoyment and productivity. Surely those are reason enough to take your lunch break!

We are joining this campaign and want to help you reclaim your lunch break too with some simple ideas to get you going…

Shared lunch – One of birds colleagues suggested this recently, everyone brings in something simple and the team has a weekly shared lunch. Birds took along cupcakes made with her trusty Betty Crocker mix/diet coke recipe…

Take a book – add a little escapism to your day and get lost in a good book… (add a cuppa for a winning combo!)

Go for a walk – Get a breath of fresh air and clear those cobwebs away, if you work in an office environment just getting out from under artificial lighting can make the world of difference to your day.

Get crafty – Utilize your lunch break to get creative, knit, sew, crochet, embroider, colouring… the possibilities are endless!

Stretch out – Yoga, pilates or just some simple stretches will help get your blood flowing and mentally awaken you too. There may be somewhere near you running lunchtime sessions or there are lots of great apps, you tube tutorials and online guides. We are particularly  enjoying Elle Fit Actives guides…

Meditation – places such as The Alternative Healthcare run free drop in lunch time meditations, its worth investigating if places near you do the same. Alternatively there are lots of great apps to help you with guided meditation…

These were just a few ideas to get you going with reclaiming your lunch break. Let us know how you get on, and what you do on your lunch break!

I love a good walk on my lunch breaks, as well as making sure I eat with someone. That way I’m chatting and trying to get more motivated for the rest of the day! Love the idea of reclaiming your lunch (as well as not feeling guilty for leaving work on time).
