Stitching by Colours

Anyone heard all the hype around adult colouring books lately? Word has it that is is an excellent way to take some time out of our busy schedules to relax and de-stress.

We love a bit of colouring ourselves and have been known to spend evenings engrossed in adding colour to a whimsical scene! We have also found a similar way to unwind using embroidery thread to ‘colour in’ fabric remnants.

All you need to have a go is scraps of fabric (we love a bit of floral fabric), embroidery thread in a variety of colours and an embroidery hoop.

We love simple stitches but these use slightly more complicated techniques. There are lots of fab embroidery tutorials online if you’re ready to try something a bit more complex, especially those by Sublime Stitching (her French Knot tutorial is great!) or this tutorial from Abigail Cecile on how to embellish fabric with embroidery. Here is some more inspiration to get you started:

Have you ever tried embroidery? We’re working out what else we can embellish with stitching!

I’ve never ever thought of embroidering! I always thought of it as a medieval art (too much George R.R. Martin probably haha). But after seeing this I want to try it! I already have some ideas in mind. Thanks for sharing πŸ™‚
